About this QuickTip

Ever paused a video on the perfect moment and wished you had it as a proper photo? In iOS 27 the Photos app can save any frame of a video as a full-quality still, up to 4K, with none of the blur or interface clutter you'd get from a screenshot. I'll show you how to grab that frame on your iPhone, ready for a new wallpaper or a keepsake photo.

Believe it or not, there's never been a good way to save a particular frame of a video on your phone as a photo. If you wanted to use it as your wallpaper, for example, you had to take a screenshot. And by doing that, you ended up losing loads of the resolution and quality, and you got bits of the interface on the picture as well. It was just never good.

Well, in iOS 27, we can now take a full-quality photo from any video by saving a particular frame to your camera roll. Let me show you how it works.

And before I do that, if you're new around here, then hi, my name is Jacob. I'm your friendly Apple expert here to help you make the most of your iPhone by showing you lots of tips and tricks you might not have realised. Hit subscribe and then you won't miss any in the future.

So, in the Photos app, I've got a video playing here - could be portrait or landscape, it doesn't matter - and I'm going to pause it at a particular point I would love to save as a photo. Now, in the past, you'd take a screenshot and you'd crop it to try and remove all the bits around the edge, and you'd get a really low-quality version of that image as a screenshot.

But actually, now on iOS 27, we can pause the video at the right point, press the options button in the corner, and then we can tap on to Save Video Frame as Photo. That will immediately put a full-quality version - 4K, if that's what you've been filming in - into your camera roll, right next to the video, and you can tap onto it and use that photo for anything you like.

Super simple, but super useful. Speaking of which, check out this QuickTip next.
