This iPhone Widget Shows the Apps You Need, When You Need Them

About this QuickTip
Tired of swiping through pages and pages of apps to find the one you need? Your iPhone can put your most-used apps right on your Home Screen automatically, and change them based on what you're doing. It's called the Siri Suggestions widget, and it learns your habits: your coffee app near the coffee shop, Maps when you're out, your podcast app at home. In this guide I'll show you how to add it: long-press the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, search Siri, and add Siri Suggestions. The magic is that the app icons have no widget background, so they blend in perfectly with your real apps. Set it once and the right apps are always a tap away. So, weirdly, I don't have any app icons on my Home Screen here. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Jacob, you've got eight icons right there." But actually, it's a widget, and it's a really clever widget, because rather than just giving you the same eight app icons every time, it automatically picks and chooses the ones that you need at the moment you need them.
So, all I'm going to do is edit my Home Screen by long-pressing and then choosing Edit at the top. From here, we're going to go onto Add Widget.
Now, the widget that I mentioned is really clever, because it learns over time what apps you need when you need them. Are you at the coffee shop? It will bring you a Starbucks app. Are you out and about? It will bring up Maps. Are you at home listening to a podcast? It will suggest that app icon for you. When you start using this, it means that you never have to go searching through pages and pages of apps, because for me, 90% of the time, the app I need is right there in that grid of eight.
So, all we're going to do is search for Siri, and you're going to find the Siri Suggestions widget here. Tap on it, add it to your Home Screen, and tap Done. And from now on, every time you open your phone, you should see the app icon you need right there.
