As well as having classes of students in Magma, we can also create individual groups. So perhaps we’re grouping based on the table the children are sat on, or perhaps we’re grouping based on intervention groups they’re in. Whatever you decide to do, you can do. And these groups can be temporary or permanent - you can delete them whenever you like.
So, I’m going to tap onto Classes in the bottom left-hand corner and then select the class that I want to group. From here you can see all the students in that class. And these aren’t real students, so don’t worry about the names and GDPR and stuff. Then I can tap onto Groups at the top.
Right now, I haven’t got any groups in the teal class at all. So, I’m going to go ahead and press New Group. This is going to be my Circle Group from the circle table. And then, when the group is created, I can simply tap on it to add my students. I can add individual students here or I can search for them. I’m going to put three students into my Circle Group.
When that’s done, I’m going to create a couple more groups. But you don’t want to see me doing that, so through the magic of editing - bing! I don’t know about the sound effect, but there you go. I’ve got three groups now. I can rename them, or I can remove the group as well. Don’t worry - you’re removing the group, not the students. You’re not going to accidentally delete students from the app or anything like that.
Now, you might be thinking, “Well, this is great, Jacob. I love a nice group, but what can I do with it?” Well, if I go back into my assignments and edit this assignment here, you can see at the moment it’s been assigned to the whole teal class. But actually, I can then tap on here, and now rather than just choosing individual students, I can select individual groups or multiple groups.
That means it will be really quick to assign different activities to different learners in your classroom. Back on the assignment overview screen, you can see in the middle which groups it’s been assigned to. And of course, if you assign to different students, it will show their names here as well.
So, those groups - they can be made, they can be deleted any time you like - but they make it really quick to assign different activities to different students in your class.
